February's Action...let your voice be heard

Catholic Charities is leading a movement to contact local, state, and federal elected officials and asking them to direct their efforts toward supporting an amended "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009;" one that eliminates "pork" and focuses on programs like
The Emergency Food Assistance Program, the National Housing Trust Fund, and providing relief to nonprofit organizations facing immediate cash flow constraints.

A letter detailing these points can be found here, and below is a link to locate contact information for your own representatives. While I usually abhor government spending and intervention, I also agree that a budget is a moral document and provisions must be made for the "least of us." However, there must be "ladders out of poverty" that not only allow but demand fruitful labor from those seeking assistance.

A work ethic must be instilled and subsidy will never outdo self sufficiency.
